Hi, I’m Charmaine.
I wanted to create a space where I could connect my interests in a single platform. Hence this page. The curiosities I explore are in various fields including complexity, systems, healthcare, improvement, education, and research.
Blogs
My favorite topic to speak and write about is sense-making. Sense-making encompasses a variety of topics including (but not limited to) decision-making, teamwork, psychological safety, identity, and communication. My interest in sense-making emerged from working in various environments and being exposed to different ways of thinking about the same phenomenon.
I collated a few of my favorite blog topics and the buttons will take you directly to it.
Click on the sense-making button below for the sense-making series of blogs. Most of the blogs is about sense-making in the Emergency Department (in South Africa it is called Emergency Centres) because that was the setting of my PhD studies.
Click on the Lean and improvement button for blogs about Lean and other improvement methods. I wrote the blogs in 2014/2015 for the Lean Institute Africa, and at the time it was posted on their webpage.
Since I can remember, going back to childhood, I’ve been passionate about community response systems and the responsibility of civil society. I’ve had the privilege to be involved in community first responder systems in a few African countries (South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda). Click on Community Response to read more about the work we’ve done.
